Averías Symptoms of a worn water impeller (and how to avoid overheating)
2026-06-09
The impeller (rubber pump rotor) moves the seawater that cools the engine. It's a cheap wear part, but if it fails it can cause serious overheating.
Symptoms
- Less water coming out of the exhaust.
- A rise in temperature.
- Cracked, deformed or broken blades when you inspect it.
How often
Check it every season and change it every 1–2 years even if it looks fine. If a blade breaks off, track it down: it usually ends up stuck in the heat exchanger.

FAQ
Do I change the impeller or the whole pump?
Usually just the impeller and the cover/gasket; the pump is replaced if there is play in the shaft.
